Tolomia keys Magi victory over Furies
MANILA, Philippines - Chester Tolomia made several highlight plays just like his amateur days and helped power the Judiciary Magi to a 90-77 win over the GSIS Furies in the fifth UNTV Cup held over the weekend at the Pasig Sports Center.
The former Ginebra player connived with Don Camaso in Judiciary’s decisive third quarter run to turn a tight contest into a rout for their third win in four games, tying idle Philippine National Police for second to third places in Group B elims.
One of the exciting players during his time in the now defunct PBL (Philippine Basketball League) with his aerial acrobatics, Tolomia finished with 26 points, most of them through long jumpers.
The 6-foot-6 Camaso, whose flourishing PBA career was cut short by an injury, added 25 points, while former Far Eastern U guard Warren Ybanez contributed 10 points.
The win is expected to give the Magi the extra motivation when they play the PNP Responders on Sunday in the tournament for the public servants.
Meanwhile, National Housing Authority notched its first back-to-back wins in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon with a come-from-behind 83-77 win over the DOJ Boosters.
The win improved NHA’s record to 3-2 while extending DOJ’s losing run to six games.
In the lone Group A match, Ombudsman evened its record to 2-2 following a surprising 77-71 win over the BFP Firefighters.
