The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Unbeaten Centro Escolar University guns for No. 8 as it clashes with winless University of Batangas today while Diliman College tries to get back at Colegio De San Lorenzo in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.

The CEU Scorpions, led by import Rod Ebondo, Art Patrick Aquino and John Karlo Casiño swept the first round elims in emphatic fashion then rolled past the CDSL Griffins, 81-65, to start their second round campaign.

Ranged against a team they dominated in the first round and dropped its first seven games, the Scorpions are heavily favored against the UB Brahmans in their 2 p.m. showdown.

Meanwhile, the DC Blue Dragons, owned by former Sen. Nikki Coseteng, take on the Griffins at 12 noon with the former out to avenge their crushing 51-81 defeat in the first round.

The Griffins share fourth with the Bulacan State University Gold Gears at 3-4. while the Blue Dragons dropped to sixth with a 2-4 card.

Despite their 16-point romp over CDSL, CEU coach Yong Garcia was far from being impressed as the Scorpions needed a big third quarter run to dispose of the Griffins.
