Posadas takes 16th, Miranda 29th in World Cup

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines’ Lara Posadas checked in 16th in the ladies’ division after the first block of five games by carding 996 pinfalls capped by a 267 game yesterday in the 52nd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup international finals in Shanghai.

But the other Filipino campaigner, Raoul Miranda, finished in 29th spot in the men’s division after posting 1920 pinfalls in two five-game blocks.

Seventy-nine men and 63 women are vying for the top 24 spots to advance to the next round.

There are still 15 games to go before the field is cut to 24.

Danielle McEwan of the United States and Russia’s Yan Korshak paced the opening round of the tough individual kegfest.

McEwan, now on her third international appearance, tallied 1157 pinfalls for a 231.4 average.  She was consistent throughout the series, finishing with a high game 247.

Korshak shot 1151 to open a 50-pin lead.

The other top men’s performers were Sweden’s Martin Larsen, American Marshall Kent, Australia’s Sam Cooley, China’s Wang Hongbo, Hong Kong’s Michael Mok, Finland’s Petteri Salonen, the Netherlands’ Nico Thienpondt and Slovenia’s Arize Grabrijan.

Among the top women’s finishers were England’s Lisa John, Indonesia’s Sharon Limansantoso, Mexico’s Iliaba Lomeli, Singapore’s Bernice Lim, Australia’s Rebecca Whiting, Switzerland’s Tana Cuva and Finland’s Krista Pollanen.
