Magdaleno wary of Donaire’s killer left hook

MANILA, Philippines – Jessie Magdaleno thinks that his best chance of wresting Nonito Donaire Jr.’s WBO super bantamweight title is to neutralize the champion’s signature punch.

“The only challenge I see from him, and everyone knows this, is his left hook,” Magdaleno recently said in a report by Gilbert Manzano of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Indeed, Donaire strongly relies on his powerful left hook, the money punch he used to stop some of the biggest names in his resume like Vic Darchinyan and Fernando Montiel.

Magdaleno, for his part, is training hard to make sure he won’t join Donaire’s list of victims.

“He (Donaire) has a very strong left hook. He has either knocked people out with it or stunned them with it,” said Magdaleno, who challenges Donaire in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas fight on November 5.

“That’s why we brought in guys with strong left hooks. We’ll be ready.”
