MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal faltered in the face of Josee Doyon’s solid outing and fumbled with a 73, settling for second in the Women’s Porter Cup at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, New York Friday.
Superal blew her overnight two-stroke lead as the Canadian ace pressed her bid with an early birdie-binge, missing the green a couple of times at the front and flubbing makeable putts for bogeys on Nos. 5 and 6.
The Country Club ace tried to rebound at the back with back-to-back birdies from No. 12 but bogeyed Nos. 15 and 18 while Doyon sustained her fiery form en route to a tournament-best six-under 66.
The Kent State U mainstay finished the 54-hole tournament at 210 for a runaway five-stroke victory.
Superal, who had hoped to add the Porter Cup crown to her list of international victories before turning pro in two months time, ended up with a 215 while Haylee Harford rallied with a 69 to salvage joint third with first round leader Jaclyn Lee, who had a 72, at 216.
Superal’s TCC teammate Pauline del Rosario also struggled with a 77 and wound up joint 17th at 226 while Sofia Chabon fought back with a 72 for a 231 and Mikha Fortuna pooled a 232 after a 77.
