Gilas bares 14-man lineup; Lassiter cut

MANILA, Philippines - After delaying the announcement of the Gilas Pilipinas lineup Wednesday night, the team management has unveiled the 14 cagers that made the cut the morning after.

Team manager Butch Antonio made the announcement early Thursday morning through his Twitter account.

Nine of the 14 members of roster have seen action in the FIBA World Cup in Sevilla, Spain. They are Jayson Castro, June Mar Fajardo, Gabe Norwood, Japeth Aguilar, Marc Pingris, LA Tenorio, Ranidel de Ocampo, Jeffrei Chan and naturalized Filipino Andray Blatche.

Bobby Ray Parks Jr., who played in the NBA D-League, headlines the newcomers, although he has served alongside Troy Rosario in the Gilas cadet pool. Ryan Reyes is the newest addition.

Familiar faces who have served in the third edition of the national team are Calvin Abueva and Terrence Romeo.

San Miguel Beermen’s Marcio Lassiter has been cut from the final pool, where the final 12 players that will see action in the FIBA-OQT will be selected.

Lassiter was placed into sickbay late May after contracting bronchopneumonia.

Gilas is set for a training camp in Europe in the next weeks in preparation for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament slated here in July 5 to 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
