Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Organizers of the MVP Juniors National Championships have put up an outreach program dubbed “MVP Cares” to support the nationwide discovery of  new badminton stars in the countryside while  introducing the sport to kids aged 13 years and below.

After a successful staging of its MVP Cares camp last month in Luzon, the program goes to the Visayas on June 9 at the Riverside Courts in Dumaguete City, or on the eve of its Visayas leg of the MVP National Juniors Championships.

“MVP Cares is a program to encourage kids to take up sports, particularly badminton,” said Smart Sports head Christopher “Epok” Quimpo. “It also aims to make the sport alive once again and support the country’s goals of developing young players.”

Over 500 participants joined the Luzon leg in San Fernando, Pampanga with organizers expecting the same number of field to vie in the Visayas stop.

“We’re expecting almost the same number of participants in the Visayas leg and hopefully more,” said Araullo.

The tournament has been around for two years now and helped the country in giving children who love the sport a venue to show their wares.

Smart, Victor exclusively distributed by Pcome Industrial Sales Inc., Toby’s Sports, MVP Sports Foundation, Unilever, Balipure, Koffer Luwak are the event sponsors while the tournament is sanctioned by PBA Smash Pilipinas.

Registration for the Visayas leg is in full swing.
