Mighty Sports 5 gains PCBL finals

Game today (Marikina Sports Center)

6 p.m. – Sta. Lucia vs Jumbo Plastic

MANILA, Philippines - Mighty Sports repeated over Euro-Med, 98-87, to clinch the first finals berth but Sta. Lucia got back at Jumbo Plastic, 68-62, to force a sudden death for the other seat in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup finals.

Kiefer Ravena returned to action and fired 17 points and dished off four assists as he complemented well with Bright Akhuetie, who turned in a double-double of 33 points and 14 rebounds to power Mighty Sports to a sweep of Euro-Med in their side of the best-of-three semis series at the Marikina Sports Center last Wednesday.

Mighty Sports actually struggled in the early going, enabling the depleted Euro-Med to wrest control but the former reasserted its might from the second quarter on en route to posting another convincing victory in the tournament supported by Hahn Manila, Spalding, Ambucore, During’s Barbeque and Restaurant, LGR and Leatherman.

One of the two newest squads which joined the league this conference, Mighty Sports will meet the winner in the Jumbo Plastic-Sta. Lucia sudden death set at 6 tonight, also at the Marikina venue.

The Realtors took charge early and raced to leads of as many as 15, 59-44, on a buzzer-beating trey by Jhaps Bautista at the end of the third quarter.

Sta. Lucia then held off repeated rallies by Jumbo Plastic to preserve the victory and live for sudden death.

Euro-Med sorely missed the services of import Ola Adeogun and head coach Yong Garcia, who were both suspended and fined P2,000 each for incurring their second technical foul in the tournament.
