MANILA, Philippines - University of the Philippines goes for its third straight streetdance championship today as part of another big UAAP Season 78 weekend at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Using an array of 90s and current dance mixes, UP Street with its “luksong tinik” theme, tallied 178 points to win the league’s best dance crew crown last year, besting Company of Ateneo Dancers (167.3) and two-time titlist La Salle Dance Company-Street (167).

With a remarkable mix of hip-hop and electronic dance music, Ateneo achieved its best finish in the four-year competition with a clean routine, while La Salle had an impressive Backstreet Boys-inspired performance.

The competition actually returned last season after it was shelved in 2014, and UP Street did not waste the opportunity to extend its reign.

The seven-team event will start at 2 p.m. to be aired live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23.

Meanwhile, action in women’s volleyball resumes tomorrow at the Mall of Asia Arena with defending champion Ateneo and archrival La Salle clashing for the second time this season to cap the big UAAP Season 78 weekend at 4:30 p.m.

Already assured of twice-to-beat slots in the Final Four, the Lady Eagles (11-2) and the Lady Spikers (10-2) will still go all-out as the two fiercest rivals are eyeing for the victory to secure the No. 1 seeding and the momentum in the post-season.

UP (7-5), seeking to stay in the Final Four hunt, and also-ran University of Santo Tomas (5-8) collide in the other match at 12 noon. Tickets for tomorrow’s women’s volleyball doubleheader are sold separately.

Adamson’s CAST hopes to compete for the title after barely missing a podium finish by placing fourth last year, along with Far Eastern University Dance Company, UST’s Hype Crew and University of the East’s Armada.

National University, which had Underdawgz as its entry in the previous editions, is not competing.

In men’s volleyball action which also resumes tomorrow, titleholder Ateneo (12-1) and Adamson University (9-3) take on the floor at 10 a.m., right after already eliminated squads De La Salle (4-9) and UE (0-13) play in the 8 a.m. curtain raiser.
