Lady Falcons extend softball win streak to 63

MANILA, Philippines – Five-peat champion Adamson hit the ground running, clobbering University of Santo Tomas in four innings, 10-0, in its debut in the UAAP Season 78 softball tournament yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

With Home Run queen Queenie Sabobo doing her thing, the Lady Falcons peppered the Tigresses’ pitchers with 14 hits and easily converted these into runs to post their first victory of the season and stretch their long-running streak to 63 games.

National U scraped past Ateneo, 2-1, to secure its second straight triumph and vault into the early lead ahead of Adamson, which took a bye in last Saturday’s opener, and idle University of the Philippines (1-0).

University of the East caught up with UST at 1-1 after rallying past La Salle, 5-4. Imee Salvador sent Elvie Senangota home in a bases-loaded situation in the bottom seventh to complete the Lady Warriors’ fight back from an early 1-3 deficit.

The Lady Archers dropped to 0-2 and joined Lady Eagles at the cellar.

Sabobo blasted a two-run homer to centerfield in the second inning to spark a four-run spree that extended AdU’s lead to 6-0.

A member of the Blu Girls team that won the gold in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games, Sababo belted five RBIs and had two runs in a three-four-four batting performance.

Two-time MVP Analie Benjamen anchored AdU’s defense, pitching a two-hitter with one strikeout, while helping offensively by driving in two runs and getting home once in a two-for-three effort at bat.
