MANILA, Philippines – The Batangas Earth and Fire Festival gives duathlon a twist when it stages the taxing run-bike-run sport close to sunset on Saturday in Barangay Poblacion Balete.
Appearing for the third time in the session presented by San Miguel Corp., the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp, Accel, and Shakey’s, Andres Alisuag said the third edition of the event continues to promote environmental awareness and tourism in Batangas.
Alisuag said the duathlon begins at 3 p.m. “which should be more than enough time for participants to finish within our three-hour cut-off time while appreciating the Taal Lake sunset.”
He added the 5K-20K-3K competition will be run on a tough rolling route, with the 20-km. cycling course passing through twice on a 10-degree slope that should prove challenging for the entries in the race backed by Lima Park Hotel in nearby Malvar and the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities in Tanauan.
Noted local triathlete and defending men’s champion Joey delos Reyes will be back to try and retain his title, the tournament organizer bared.
