PBA slaps P91,200 total fines on Aces, Batang Pier for Game 2 brawl
MANILA, Philippines -- Alaska Aces rugged forwards Calvin Abueva and Vic Manuel were meted with the heaviest fines for their roles in the melee that marred their 100-76 Game 2 win against the GlobalPort Batang Pier on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the 2015-16 Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup.
A total of P91,200 fines were handed out to Alaska and GlobalPort players and their respective team officials for the near bench-clearing incident. Fortunately, nobody got suspended and both teams will troop to deadlock-breaking Game Three on Friday.
Abueva was hit P41,600 while Manuel was tagged with P11,600 in the heated game that drew 16 technical fouls, the most since the 1997 Governors' Cup.
Abueva's fines were broken down as follows: for instigating a commotion (P20,000), confronting GlobalPort governor and league vice chairman Erick Arejola (P10,000), confronting Anthony Semerad and Jay Washington (P10,000), and for second motion (P1,600). Manuel, on the other hand, was fined P10,000 for shoving Jay Washington twice and P1,600 for second motion.
Washington, meanwhile, was slapped with P4,000 for his second (P1,600) and third (P2,400) technical fouls in the conference.
Hontiveros, who was seen being animatedly reprimanded by league commissioner Chito Narvasa on TV replays, was slapped with only P1,000 for his first technical foul in the conference. Other players who were assessed with P1,000 fine are Semerad, Joseph Yeo, Dorian Peña.

GlobalPort team manager Bonnie Tan, coach Pido Jarencio, Alaska coach Alex Compton and assistant coaches Louie Alas, Jeffrey Cariaso, and Monch Gavieres were meted with P5,000 fine each for leaving the bench.
Team governors Dickie Bachmann of Alaska and Erick Arejola of GlobalPort got away without fines but will be issued a stern warning for their roles in the melee.
Fortunately, nobody got suspended and both teams will troop to deadlock-breaking Game Three on Friday with complete lineups.
