MANILA, Philippines – Lyceum of the Philippines University smashed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 12-0, on Tuesday to breathe life to its semifinal hopes in the 91st NCAA football tournament at the Rizal Memorial pitch.

Mariano Suba unleashed a whopping six goals, including six in the second half when the Pirates pulled away for good in essaying their second victory against three defeats, just half a game behind the No. 4 Generals, who fell to 2-2 (win-loss).

EAC, however, could fall out of the semis in the event LPU catches up on the former since the latter has better goal differential, -22 to -26.

As of posting time, San Beda and College of St. Benilde lead the way with pristine 4-0 records although the Lions, the defending champions, own a better goal differential than the Blazers, 58-54.

Arellano U is at third with a 4-1 slate.

Suba opened the scoring early on the 15th minute and then scored another goal 11 minutes later that sandwiched a rocket by Noli Dollentes on the 11th.

Beejay Gonzales struck two goals in a hurry late in the first half that gave the Pirates a 5-0 lead at halftime.

And then Suba came in fiercer in the second half when he unloaded four more goals to complete the one-sided affair.

Christopher Villanueva and Zynedyne Penaflor were the other scorers for LPU.
