La Salle seals deal with Ayo as new coach
MANILA, Philippines – La Salle yesterday formalized its appointment of coach Aldin Ayo, who hopes to bring his winning style from Letran in the NCAA to the Archers in the next UAAP wars.
“Upon deliberation of a search committee and consultation with the administration and alumni, La Salle is pleased to announce Aldin Ayo as the new head coach of the men’s basketball team,” said La Salle in a statement.
Ayo, who steered the Knights to their first championship in a decade by upending the five-peat champion San Beda Lions in the recent NCAA finals, decided to move to La Salle last month despite having a live three-year contract with Letran.
But Letran officials and Ayo met in a victory bash-turned-farewell party last month with the former deciding to let the latter go and wishing him good luck.
Ayo will thus take over from Juno Sauler, hoping to motivate the likes of Jeron Teng, Jason Perkins, Thomas Torres and Andrei Caracut the way he did to Mark Cruz, Kevin Racal and Rey Nambatac.
