MANILA, Philippines – Two-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray is set to debut at the Dubai leg of the International Premier Tennis League for the OUE Singapore Slammers.
Being the British number one, it hadn't always been easy for Murray to carry the hope of an entire nation for a Briton to finally win a major after Fred Perry's last win in 1936.
Now we take a look at Murray's record in sealing his place among the tennis greats in the world:
- With prize money of over $40 million, he is the fifth all-time leader in earnings.
- In 2012, he became the only man in history to have won Olympic Gold and the US Open in the same calendar year.
- With those wins, he also became only the third man to hold the gold medal and two majors on different surfaces. The other two being Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal.
- Murray is considered among the most consistent tennis players with him reaching at least the quarterfinals of Grand Slams every year since 2011, except the 2015 US Open.
- Murray won the 2013 Wimbledon championship, giving Britain the crown after Perry last held it in 1936.
- At the Cincinnati Open, Murray became only one of two players (the other being Nadal), to defeat then World Number 1 Roger Federer, breaking the latter's 55-winning streak.
- Murray also led the British team to win the 2015 Davis Cup, its first since 1936. He became the third person since the current Davis Cup format to win all eight of his singles rubber in a Davis Cup season.
