MANILA, Philippines – The PATTS School of Aeronautics Seahorses and the Colegio de San Lorenzo Griffins continued to post resounding victories Monday at the resumption of the 8th Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (UCLAA) basketball tournament at the Marikina Sports Complex.
John Lymon Reed topscored for 19 points as the Sea Horses toppled the Lyceum of Alabang Sharks, 84-76, for their second straight win with the Griffins.
Dominic Formenta led with 14 points as the Griffins put away the Philippine Nautical and Technological College cagers, 82-54.
Their back-to-back triumph came a week after the Sea Horses smothered their rivals from the Philippine State College of Aeronautics, 120-46.
The Seahorses, who got rattled by losses suffered to Jose Rizal University and National University in the PCCL, finally got back in the groove in the third period.
Reed led the Seahorses out of a 43-all halftime deadlock, by making 10 points in the third.
Unleashing a decisive 12-6 run, with Reed capping the attack with back-to-back baskets, carried the Seahorse ahead, 55-49, with 5:46 remaining.
“The boys eager to get ahead after their back-to-back losses in the PCCL. That’s why we had lapses early. But they were able to find their form in the third period,” said PATTS coach Renzie Aranzaso.
In other games, St. Francis of Assissi College Doves posted a 107-53, stopping of PNTC in their opener last week.
The Doves drew 16 points from Jeric Prado while Tonio Custodio came up with 15.
