MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Caida Tiles disposed of Supremo Lex, 96-62, to advance to the semifinal round of the PCBL Founders Cup at the JCSGO Gym Saturday night.
Euro-Med, meanwhile, leaned on a late-game heroics by Mar Villahermosa to repulse Kama Motors in overtime, 85-78, to join Caida Tiles and early qualifier Jumbo Plastic in the next round.
Villahermosa’s triple in regulation sent the game into overtime, where Euro-Med outscored Kama Motors to clinch the win.
Jamil Ortuoste and Mike Calisaan combined for nine unanswered point as Kama Motors pulled to within, 49-52, with still 7:25 left.
With 46 seconds remaining in regulation, Kama Motors banked on ex-pro Roider Cabrera, who buried a triple to shatter the 61-all count.
In the next play, Euro-Med missed two chances – a triple by Samboy de Leon and a putback by Paul Zamar with Mark Montuano grabbing the rebound for Kama Motors.
Euro-Med gave up a foul to stop the clock and Ortuoste cracked under pressure and missed two free throws, paving the way for Villahermosa’s triple that sent game match into extra period.
Euro-Med hit back-to-back treys, courtesy of Alvin Abundo and De Leon, in the extension then clamped down on defense to Kama Motors.
