UFC president eyes Rousey-Holm rematch

Joey Villar - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White said Ronda Rousey will have a chance to regain the bantamweight title she lost to Holly Holm in UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia a month ago.

Although White said there's no specific date yet, he hinted it will be soon.

"I think that if we didn't make the rematch, me and [UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta] should probably lose our promoter's license," White recently told ESPN. "That's the fight that's going to happen. That's the fight.

"Ronda Rousey has gone undefeated; she's taken the sport to another level and beaten the best women in the world in 14 seconds, 30 seconds. She deserves a rematch. Holly agrees she deserves a rematch. We'll figure it out."

Holm, a multi-division boxing champion who is undefeated in 10 UFC fights, sent shockwaves in the mixed martial arts world by knocking out the once mighty Rousey, who fell to 12-1 (win-loss), in one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.

White said a rematch would "make sense" right after the Holm-Rousey showdown.

There were reports that the Holm-Rousey II will be one of the headlines in the much-anticipated UFC 200 in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 9, details White neither confirmed nor denied.

One thing's for sure though, it will happen.
