UFC sees no Holm rematch in 6 months

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Ronda Rousey will have to wait at least six months to get a crack at a rematch with newly crowned world champion Holly Holm.

The ruling Ultimate Fighting Championship body had earlier issued a 180-day medical suspension on Rousey following a second round knockout defeat to Holm in the UFC 193 in Australia last Sunday.

Rousey, 28, was actually one of several fighters at UFC 193 handed the medical reprieve, usually given to fighters who sustained injuries after their bouts.

Another fighter given the medical suspension was strawweight champion Joanna Jedzerzyk, who retained her crown after beating Valerie Letourneau via decision but might have injured her hand.

UFC chief Dana White said the Holm-Rousey II could happen but didn’t give any detail as to when or where it possibly be held although there were reports it will be at UFC 200 on July 9 next year in Las Vegas.

Holm used her superb boxing skills to neutralize Rousey’s  tremendous offensive blows and vaunted ground game, and claim the bantamweight title and deal the former Olympic bronze medalist her first loss after 12 wins.
