MANILA, Philippines - Floyd Mayweather Jr., enjoying his retirement by buying exotic cars and riding his private jet, has broken his silence on persistent talks of a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.
The flamboyant boxer who retired after going 49-0 last September told FightHype.com that Pacquiao is just using his name to promote himself and his next fight.
“It’s all bull…it,” said Mayweather of a rematch.
Pacquiao has said a few times over the past weeks that he’s in talks with the Mayweather camp regarding a rematch next year.
The Filipino superstar, who fought Mayweather in a historic, record-breaking fight last May, and lost a unanimous decision, said he’s open to a second fight.
Pacquiao said he wants to show the people how he would fare against Mayweather without the shoulder injury.
Top Rank chief Bob Arum is looking at Amir Khan, Terence Crawford and Timothy Bradley as Pacquiao’s opponent for April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
But Pacquiao keeps on fanning the fire, telling whoever he’s with and wherever he’s at that he’s looking at a rematch with Mayweather.
Mayweather told Ben Thompson of FightHype.com what he thinks.
“What they’re (Pacquiao camp) doing is this, once again, piggybacking off my name to sell pay-per-view numbers when he do go out there and fight again,” he said.
Mayweather is retired, and has no plans to unretiring.
“Period,” he was quoted by Stephen Smith, a popular American sports TV personality.
Mayweather is enjoying his millions, hundreds of millions, in retirement, like there’s nothing more on earth that will lure him back into fighting.
“I’m in different cities in different countries and I hear people talking about Mayweather-Pacquiao 2,” said Mayweather.
He’ll unretire when he wants to.
