MANILA, Philippines – Armed Forces of the Philippines completed a five-game sweep of the first round elims, rallying in the second half to turn back Ombudsman, 107-94, Thursday night in the fourth UNTV Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena.

The AFP Cavaliers trailed in the first two quarters but bounced back strong in the third behind the hot shooting of former PBA player Boyet Bautista and Winston Sergio, grabbing the lead, 76-70, going into the final 10 minutes of the contest.

The 5-foot-6 Bautista then almost singlehandedly finished off the Graftbusters by scoring 10 more points as AFP topped Group B elims with an unblemished record.

For the fourth straight time, Bautista topscored for the Cavaliers with 34 points while Sergio logged 26 markers.

AFP’s victory also negated the conference-high 43 points of Ombudsman’s Bernzon Franco, who sizzled for 13 first quarter points that saw them post a 22-17 lead.

In Group A matches, Malacañang drew another big game from Jenkins Mesina to demolish Department of Justice, 72-59, while National Housing Authority downed Government Service Insurance System, 89-75.

Both Malacañang and NHA finished the first round elims with 3-2 records.
