Chan, Corpus pace North Luzon regional

MANILA, Philippines – Jungolfers Aidric Chan and Carl Corpus carded identical two-over 74s to share the lead at the start of the Northern Luzon Regional Golf Championship at the Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac Wednesday.

Nico Evangelista and Ira Alido stood two strokes behind with similar 76s while Carlo Gatmaitan struggled with a 77 for solo fifth in men’s play of the National Golf Association of the Philippines-organized tournament sponsored by the MVP Sports Foundation.

Title-favorite Harmie Constantino bogeyed the last two holes and settled for a one-over 73 to lead the women’s Elite Open of the event serving as part of the PLDT National Amateur Tour.  

Constantino’s fellow national pool member Ashia Nocum struggled on the hazard-laden layout and limped with an 86.

Peregrin de Guzman birdied the 18th to card an 80 and tie with Fernando delos Reyes in the Seniors Open division lead.

Valentin Lopez strung up nines of 41-41 to set the pace in the Mid-Am Open with an 82. 

In the Novice Open, a new division of the tournament, Samantha Dizon churned out an 83 for an 11-shot lead over Wei Fang Gao.
