Biado, Kiamco post 3rd US 9-ball win
MANILA, Philippines - Carlo Biado pulled off a big win over a former world champion while veteran Warren Kiamco edged his Canadian rival as the Filipino aces stormed to their third straight triumphs in the 40th US Open 9-ball Championship Tuesday night at Sheraton Waterside in Norfolk, Virginia.
Biado battled back from a 1-3 deficit and took the next 10 racks as he stunned German Thorsten Hohmann, 11-3, while Kiamco dispatched Jason Klatt, 11-9, as the duo remained in the winners’ side of the double-elimination tourney.
Biado will seek to continue his winning ways against Scotland’s Jayson Shaw, who survived top lady cuemaster Karen Corr in a hill-hill match, 11-10. For his part, Kiamco will go up against German Ralf Souquet, who tripped Greek Nikos Ekonomopoulos, 11-6.
Dennis Orcollo, however, suffered an 8-11 setback to Chinese Dang Jin Hu and dropped to the losers’ bracket. Orcollo grabbed an 8-6 lead against Dang but the Chinese bounced back and took the next five racks to steal the win.
Meanwhile, five other Pinoys who are in the losers’ side kept their bids alive after beating their respective American opponents.
Roberto Gomez trounced Frankie Hernandez, 11-6; Francisco Felicilda outclassed Ernesto Dominguez, 11-9; Jeffrey Ignacio routed Robert Ferry, 11-1; Jundel Mazon crushed Joshua Padron, 11-2; and Ramil Gallego defeated Cleiton Rocha, 11-7.
