Braves shatter Cubs 19-win run
MANILA, Philippines - The Arellano U Braves pulled off a shock 72-68 victory over the San Beda Cubs to foil the latter’s title sweep bid in the NCAA juniors’ division at the MOA yesterday.
Carlo Abadeza came through with 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal while Guillmer dela Torre had 15 points to help the Braves secure the victory.
It was also the Cubs’ first setback of the season after steamrolling their way to 19 straight wins, including a 76-68 victory in last Friday’s Game One.
But Arellano still needs to win two more games to snare its first championship while San Beda has to prevail only once to nail a record seventh straight championship and a league-best 22nd title.
“The boys just played with a lot of heart in this game,” said Arellano coach Tyrone Darjuan.
