The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Reigning Female Swimmer of the Year Kyla Soguilon notched three new marks in the girls’ 10 years category to lead the list of record breakers in the 85th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Series dubbed the All-School Swim Challenge yesterday at the Diliman College swimming pool in Quezon City.

Soguilon, who represents Kalibo Sun Yat Sen School, registered one minute,  14.85 seconds to smash the 1:16.78 old record in the 100-meter individual medley. She also posted new times in the 50m backstroke (34.12) and 50m butterfly (33.31).

Joining her in the spotlight were fellow record breakers Aubrey Tom of Divine Angels Montessori of Cainta, Marc Bryan Dula of Wissenheimer Academy and Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh of Immaculate Heart of Mary College-Parañaque.

The eight-year-old Tom set new marks in the girls’ 8 years 50m backstroke (41.23) and 50m butterfly (37.66) while Dula dominated the boys’ 8 years 50m butterfly via a record-breaking feat of 39.12 seconds.

Mojdeh, on the other hand, submitted 42.98 seconds, erasing the previous mark in the girls’ 9 years 50m breaststroke of the tournament supported by The Manila Times and Diliman Preparatory School owned by former Sen. Nikki Coseteng.

“We are happy to see these kids improve from time to time. Breaking records is not a walk in the park. These kids are training hard to achieve excellence in swimming and we want these kids to set as example to other young swimmers,” said PSL president Susan Papa.
