Pringle expects a lot from Gilas star Romeo

MANILA, Philippines -- Globalport’s Fil-American guard Stanley Pringle is expecting a lot from backcourt partner Terrence Romeo in the incoming 41st PBA season.

Pringle, last season’s Rookie of the Year, said Romeo’s two-month stint with Gilas Pilipinas will surely benefit the Batang Pier, one of several PBA teams that engaged in several trades in the offseason.

“I’m really excited. He (Romeo) learned a lot from those (Gilas) guys and the team so it’s gonna translate to us and we’re gonna get better,” a beaming Pringle told Philstar.com.

The six-foot Pringle added that the 5-foot-11 Romeo for sure, has learned a lot playing against the best Asian players, culminating in Gilas’ silver-medal finish in the Fiba-Asia men’s championships last weel.

“FIBA is a great competition. So just him playing against really great guys and the best competition in Asia, that’s automatically gonna translate over,” noted the 28-year-old Fil-American playmaker.

“He’s played under (Gilas) coach Tab (Baldwin), too and playing with a group of guys.”

But other than just Romeo, Pringle said GlobalPort has been busy in the preseason, doing a lot of running and playing several games to stay sharp.

“We’ve been doing a lot running, a lot of conditioning. Everybody’s getting their wind in, lifting,” he said.

GlobalPort, which placed eighth overall last season with its cumulative 16-20 win-loss record, ruled the 2015 Manny Pacquiao Cup last month in General Santos City.

The Batang Pier also competed against the visiting Jordanian national side upon their return to Manila, along with preseason matches against Mahindra and Barangay Ginebra.

GlobalPort boosted its stock in the offseason after acquiring Jervy Cruz and Dorian Pena in trades, while solidifying its backcourt by adding free agent Jonathan Uyloan.

Rookies Roi Sumang (2015 third round pick) and free agent Philip Paniamogan are expected to add depth for GlobalPort.
