Tourney withdrawals cost Serena Williams $3M

Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines – Tennis' biggest star is facing big losses after her withdrawal from a number of WTA tennis tournaments.

The loses will cost the reigning Women's No. 1 Serena Williams a hefty amount of $3 million, according to to ESPN's tennis correspondent Peter Bodo.

Bodo explained the details of Williams' situation in a report first made by ESPN:

To quote:
Her fine for missing the WTA Finals in Singapore will be $125,000 ... By skipping the China Open, Williams will have failed to meet the required commitment to play in at least four of the five WTA Premier Mandatory events. Therefore, she forfeits the $450,000 she would have earned in bonus pool money as the No. 1 player. And because Williams didn’t play all nine of the WTA events that would have qualified her for a “Super Bonus,” she can’t claim that $100,000 either.
Williams, who suited up for  the then Manila Mavericks is set for a return for the  renamed crew, the Philippine Mavericks.

She is set to play alongside Men's No. 9 Milos Raonic, No. 11 Richard Gasquet, local doubles hero Treat Huey, German power hitter Sabine Lisicki and returning skipper Mark Philippoussis.

The International Premier Tennis League in which the Mavericks will see action, will mount its second leg at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay. The festivities will kick off December 6 and will last until December 8.
