Grizzlies top Maccabi Haifa 97-84 behind 23 from Gasol

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Marc Gasol scored 23 points in 29 minutes and the Memphis Grizzlies beat Maccabi Haifa 97-84 on Thursday night (Friday in Manila) for their second straight preseason victory.

Gasol finished 8 of 12 from the floor and was 7 of 9 from the free throw line.

GRIZZLIES: The Memphis bench was 1 of 11 from 3-point range. ... Mike Conley played 28 minutes and had 10 points and five rebounds. ... Starting forward Zach Randolph played just 12 minutes and had two points and no rebounds. ... Newcomer Brandan Wright had a team-high nine rebounds and scored eight points in 22 minutes.

MACCABI HAIFA: Dijon Thompson, who played at UCLA, scored 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting. ... Seven-footer Alex Chubrevich had 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

EXTRA ENERGY: Matt Barnes was 0 for 5 from long range but provided energy and intensity in Tony Allen's absence. Barnes had seven rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes and was on the court when the Grizzlies erased an eight-point deficit in the third quarter. Allen was given the night off.

UP NEXT: Memphis plays Monday against Cleveland at Columbus, Ohio. Maccabi Haifa plays Sunday (Monday in Manila) at the Los Angeles Lakers.
