Cebu gears up for first Cobra As-Pac Ironman

MANILA, Philippines - A first-class event gets a first-class venue as the first-ever Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific goes to triathlon hub Cebu next year.

Cebu has helped spur the growth of triathlon in the country, hosting tens of thousands of triathletes from all over the world in the successful Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 events.

Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 started with 583 athletes in 2009 and the roster had multiplied in the next five years, turning it into a world-class and most sought-after event. In fact, this year’s staging drew a record 2,618 participants from 52 countries across six continents with slots sold out in 40 minutes with 500 people on the waiting list.

This prompts Ironman 70.3 to expand triathlon in Asia and chooses the Philippines for the first ever Cobra Energy Drink 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship, giving the honor to Cebu, long considered as the Crown Jewel of Asia Pacific.

“Cebu has hosted the successful Ironman 70.3 Philippines triathlon the past five years and will provide our athletes with a beautiful and challenging championship course,” said Geoff Meyer, chief executive officer for Ironman Asia-Pacific.

Meanwhile, registration for the 2016 Cobra Ironman As-Pac will open tomorrow at the provincial capitol of Cebu from 6:30-8:30 a.m. with a total of 2,900 slots up for grabs.

An expected 200 attendees will grace the listup with all registrants to receive a Cobra Energy Drink IM 70.3, 70.3 APAC t-shirt and free breakfast at the venue sponsored by Alaska.
