MANILA, Philippines - Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police disposed of their respective rivals in contrasting wins to stay on top of their respective groups in the fourth UNTV Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena last Thursday.

Former Letran star guard Boyet Bautista and Rolando Pascual took charge again for the AFP Cavaliers, who outlasted the Judiciary Magis, 90-81, in a tense and physical encounter between the past and present champions of the league in Group B.

The PNP Responders, on the other hand, waylaid the Department of Justice Boosters, 98-58, for their second straight win in Group A.

In the other game, Marlon Adolfo tallied 24 points and 10 rebounds as Bureau of Fire Protection stopped Ombudsman, 75-66, for a 2-1 record.

Bautista, who led the Knights to their last NCAA championship in 2005, flashed top form to score 26 points while Jeffrey Quiambao and Roland Pascual held their ground against ex-PBA players Don Camaso and Ariel Capus and finished with 14 markers each.

The loss was the third straight for the Magis in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon.

Capuz, the reigning MVP of the league, did score 32 points but Camaso was limited to just 10 points.

Omiping, who had two-time PBA MVP James Yap as his teammate at University of the East, exploded with 24 points spiked by an impressive 6-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

He was ably supported by Julius Criste who finished with 17 markers, including three triples. He also had three boards and a steal.
