Lady Bulldogs survive Lady Warriors, extend win streak to 21
MANILA, Philippines — Reigning champion National University survived University of the East, 66-63 to make it five in a row in the UAAP Season 78 women's basketball Wednesday at the Blue Eagle gym.
Reigning MVP Afril Bernardino shot 13 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who needed buffer free throws from Shelly Gupilan and Jack Animam in the final 10.3 seconds to escape the upset axe and extend their winning run to 21 games.
University of Santo Tomas downed Adamson University, 70-67, to gain a share of second spot with De La Salle, a 44-43 winner over Ateneo, at 4-1.
Ana Castillo starred the Lady Archers with 11 points.
Far Eastern University tripped University of the Philippines, 46-38 for its first win of the season.
The Lady Falcons fell to 3-2, while the Lady Warriors slipped to 2-3. The Lady Tamaraws tied the Lady Eagles at 1-4, while the Lady Maroons are still winless in five starts.
