Chicano survives Javier challenge, wins Cebu duathlon
MANILA, Philippines - John Chicano bucked cramps and Standard Insurance’s Robeno Javier tough challenge to rule the National Duathlon Championships (NDC) at Lantaw and Il Corso, South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City over the weekend.
During the second loop of the second run leg of the competitive Standard Distance (10 km run – 40 km bike – 5 km run) Elite competition, Chicano made his move and got past Javier en route to winning the event in one hour, 56 minutes and 30 seconds.
Javier, also slowed down by an ankle problem in the run stage, settled for silver in 1:57:26 while Joey Delos Reyes of Standard Insurance took the bronze in 1:59:45.
On the distaff side of the event sponsored by Standard Insurance, Century Tuna, Gatorade, Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines, Inc., Diamond Suites & Residence, Omega Liniment Pro, Island Souvenirs, RaceDay, Kikay Runner, Magic 92.3 Cebu, SwimBikeRun.ph and PinoyFitness.com, national duathlete Mirasol Abad took advantage of Standard Insurance’s Miscelle Gilbuena’s pedal issues early in the race before cruising to victory in 2:24:35.
Gilbuena finished second with 2:30:18 and Cebuana Elona Louise Villacin ended up third in 2:43:43 in the event organized by Danao City Sports Commission and the Triathlon Association of the Philippines.
