Father, son shine in ASEAN MTB Cup

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Father and son Frederick and Jerich Farr of Team Prima Pasta Philippines reigned in the 2015 ASEAN Mountain Bike Cup Leg 3 by winning their respective divisions over the weekend in Poring, Ranau, Malaysia.

The elder Farr captured the men’s Master B downhill title in the final run with a time of 03:48.39, outsprinting Malaysians Kan Yin Gan (04:16.33) and Gregory Dominic Hendroff-Yong (04:24.41).

Coach Eboy, as Frederick is commonly known, bettered his qualifying round time of 3:48.72. With this win, Coach Eboy is on track in defending the overall title he won last year.

He took the gold in the first leg held in Danao, Cebu last January, and the bronze in the second leg held last April in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old national team member Jerich Farr captured the gold in the  Elite Downhill event in 03.44.64.

He beat Agung Fambudi of Indonesia (03:50.72) and  Muhamad Aim Muhamad Fauzi of Malaysia (03:51.53).

“After failing to win in the first two legs, I finally nailed one here in the third leg,” said the younger Farr.

“It really feels great to win something big for your country. I would like to thank Team Prima for believing in us and supporting our campaign. We’d also like to thank the support of Isuzu-DMax and Specialized bikes.”

He improved his second place finish in the qualifying run with a time of 3:33.14. The 2.1 kilometer tracks on the final run were very slippery on account of the rain that poured before the start of the race.

Nineteen  cyclists from Southeast Asia competed in the event.
