San Beda-A downs Letran in Fr. Martin cagefest
MANILA, Philippines – Robert Bolick Jr. and William Manalo fired 18 and 17 points for San Beda-A as it turned back Letran, 72-63, Saturday in the 13th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament at the Arellano University gymnasium in Legarda, Manila.
This allowed the Red Lions to finish with five wins in six games in Group B, and stay in contention for the first quarterfinal slot.
Baskets from Bolick and Manalo in the final minute allowed the Red Lions to gain some distance, and they came after the Knights threatened, 61-65.
San Beda-B, led by Arnaud Noah with 20 points, demolished Jose Rizal University, 90-65, to hike their win-loss record to 2-2 in Group A and keep their hopes alive for a quarterfinal seat.
It was the Red Lions-A’s third consecutive win.
The other week, Manalo made 15 points to power San Beda-A to a 64-52 triumph over the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.
The same went with San Beda-B, which drew 16 points from Benedict Adamos in swamping University of Perpetual Help-Cavite, 88-52.
In other matches, Jayson Jordan had 25 points as AMA Computer University tripped JRU, 77-65.
In the junior division, National University won over St. Jude, 45-36, to improve at 2-1 in Group B, while Jeremiah Pangalangan drilled in 25 points in leading Infant Jesus Academy to a 95-63 rout of the San Sebastian College Stags.
