Anton strikes anew, rules Asian karting Philippine leg

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Macau champion and Castrol-Yokohama karter Iñigo Anton dominated the field to rule the Philippine leg of the Asian Karting Open Championship at the Carmona Race track in Cavite recently.

Anton took charge in the rain-drenched weekend event, setting the pace in his Kart Plaza-Works kart then pulled away en route to victory.

With Anton, backed by Auto Shack, JSD autosports, Special Stage, View Park Hotel, MohSpeed and Kilton, in front, Edgesport Mark Young racing teammate Maveric Corpuz battled it out with Contantine Reisch of Austria, Joaquin Garrido of the Philippines and Khristine Yokoyama of Japan. In the heat of battle for position, Yokoyama and Corpuz tangled, forcing the latter to retire with a shattered bumper.

Garrido eventually finished second to Anton while Reisch came in third.

“I can’t believe my luck. After we won Macau in June, I knew it would be hard to win again so we really prepared with coach Edgen (Dy-Liacco). But we never thought it would turn out to be this way,” said Anton, who thus took a commanding lead in the Asian Championship heading to the third round in Thailand this November.

“Iñigo’s practice sessions with champion karter Flynn Jackes also made the difference. It was a combined effort and we want to thank everyone for their help,” said multiple champion racer Carlos Anton.
