Bata heads Team Asia in King’s Cup
MANILA, Philippines - Pool legend Efren “Bata” Reyes will skipper Team Asia, which will pit its talent and skills against the best of Europe and the US in the King’s Cup slated Nov. 19-21 at the Resorts World Manila.
Dragon Promotions executive producer Charlie Williams has cited the Filipino ace’s track record, not only individual competitions but also in team play in naming him team captain of the East side to be backed up by a slew of equally talented players, guaranteeing a fierce clash for pool supremacy in the three-day championship.
“Efren Reyes has a long track record of success in team events. And he’s going to have an amazing supporting cast,” said Williams.
The event marks the first time that the men’s champions of Europe and USA will slug it out with best and finest players in Asia. Four players on each side will be selected to represent their respective continents.
“Being named captain of Team Asia is a big responsibility. But I know our Asia team players are all really good, so it’s going to be a joint effort,” said Reyes, a former world 9-ball champion who also ruled the World Bank Pool, the World One Pocket, the US Open, and a number of Asian Games and SEA Games. He has also excelled in team play, winning the world mixed doubles and World Cup of Pool.
