Gamolo claims NGAP Minda plum with 73
MANILA, Philippines - Jelbert Gamolo outdueled Del Monte teammate Noel Langgamin and captured the elite division crown with a closing 73 to fashion out a three-stroke victory in the NGAP Mindanao regional golf tournament at Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City yesterday.
Gamolo and Langgamin battled it out on even terms with 73s and 70s in the first two rounds but the former outplayed the latter in the last 18 holes to nail the crown with an even-par 216 aggregate.
Langgamin struggled and hobbled with a four-over 76 to finish second at 219 in the 54-hole event organized by the National Golf Association of the Philippines and MVP Sports Foundation.
Mel Cubillo matched par 72 then nipped Jovencio Lusterio, who skied to an 80, in the countback to claim third place at 228.
SEA Games veteran Harmie Constantino coasted to a 19-shot romp in the ladies’ side, firing a 71 for a 206 with Kristine Torralba finishing second at 225 after a 77.
Pamela Mariano shot a 76 and wound up third at 227.
Eugene Unabia rallied to capture the Mid-Am crown while Clifford Celdran completed a wire-to-wire victory in seniors play.
