No rest, no problem: Abueva, Romeo thrive in packed Jones Cup schedule

TAIPEI – Gilas rookies Calvin Abueva and Terrence Romeo have never taken a rest through four games here and they’re not about to complain.

They are ready to play all eight Gilas matches in the Jones Cup, vowing to do their best to make the Final 12 for the FIBA Asia Championship in China from September 23-October 3.

It’s a dream for both players who had never donned the national jersey.

“It’s really a dream and will fight for it,” said Romeo, without a stint with the national team despite all whopping numbers churned out as a prolific-scoring player for FEU in both junior and senior plays.

Abueva, meanwhile, is soaking everything here after being barred from joining the previous Gilas squad.

“It feels good to play for Gilas. It feels great to represent the country,” said Abueva.

He’s enjoying his time on the court as a national player, so much so that he’s willing to play all games here despite health woes.

“I can guarantee I will dish out 100 percent even if I’m hurt,” he said.
