Arellano, AMA, Xavier unbeaten in Martin Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Arellano University, AMA Computer University and Xavier School overwhelmed separate rivals to keep their win run going in the 13th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament over the weekend.

Renz Luis Alcoriza fired 20 points for the AU Chiefs, who blasted Gilas Pilipinas National Under-16 squad, 86-66, at the Xavier School gymnasium in San Juan.

The win was Arellano’s third straight in Group A of the seniors division.

Gilas U-16, however, bounced back with an 86-71 romp over Perpetual Help as Dave Ildefonso banged in 23 points.

In junior play, Desmond Santos scored 26 points as the AMA Junior Titans thumped Philippine Cultural College, 89-50, at the Arellano U gym in Legarda, Manila.

It was the Baby Chiefs’ third straight victory in Group A.

Tyler Tio made 19 points as he powered the Xavier School Golden Stallions to an 88-57 rout of the Mapua Red Robins for win No. 4 in Group B at San Beda gym in Mendiola.

In other senior matches, Ian Macaranas shot 19 points as the AMA Computer University Titans trounced the Perpetual Help-Cavite side, 83-61, to improve to 2-1 in Group A.

Atong Ular delivered 21 points for the Letran Knights, who waylaid Mary the Queen College, 85-75, for a 2-2 slate in Group B.

San Benildo dismantled Holy Cross-Pampanga, 96-65, while Infant Jesus Academy drew 14 points from Jerome Ibay to beat the Arellano U Baby Chiefs, 76-68, in other junior games.
