3 FCVBA teams make it to finals

The Philippine Star

KUCHING, Malaysia – The three teams of the Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association outclassed their rivals to advance to the finals of their respective divisions in the 24th ASEAN Seniors Basketball Tournament Friday here.

The 60 years squad, getting another big lift from former La Salle star Kenneth Yap, was the first to book a final ticket with a 35-22 drubbing of host Hornbill in the first crossover semis.

The 6-foot-3 Yap used his height advantage to the hilt to collect eight straight points from the free throw area, enough to disarm the host squad as they roared to a 22-13 lead.

It was all FCVBA show from there as 70-year-old Zotico Tan, Israel Catacutan, Julio Cruz, Bong dela Cruz, Jimi Lim, Terry Que and Danny Co joined the scoring act for the Eduard Tio-mentored squad.
