Nietes leads ALA US card
MANILA, Philippines - Reigning WBO light-flyweight champion Donnie Nietes has been tapped to headline the “Filipinos Kontra Latinos” card at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California on Oct. 17.
Michael Aldeguer, president and CEO of ALA Promotions, yesterday informed The STAR of the decision to include Nietes in ALA’s inaugural Pinoy Pride card in the United States.
Out to provide guaranteed excitement to Filipino boxing fans in California are IBF Intercontinental junior-featherweight champion Albert Pagara and Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo.
Pagara, 21, is undefeated in 23 fights while Magsayo, a 20-year-old featherweight, is untouched in 11 professional fights. They’re both a joy to watch.
The other Pagara in the junior-welterweight class, Jason, is a doubtful starter in Carson after suffering two cuts over his left eye during last week’s ALA card in Dubai.
“We’ll see how Jason’s cuts heal,” said Aldeguer.
Negotiations are on between ALA and different promoters. Aldeguer said the card should be finalized soon, perhaps next week.
For Nietes, they’re looking at anybody inside the top 15 at 108 lb.
Aldeguer said having Nietes at StubHub has always been at the back of their minds.
