Chua siblings score in junior league
MANILA, Philippines - Siblings Andrew and Annika Chua primed up for next week’s interschool championships as they topped their respective divisions in the second and third quarterly ICTSI-JGFP School Season tournament at the Riviera Sports and Country Club in Silang, Cavite recently.
The Chuas were among the 80 players who scored victories in various age groups (6-17) in the five-day tournament conducted by The Junior Golfers League at Ayala Greenfield, Army Golf, Phil.Navy and Riviera golf courses with the best three games counting.
Andrew pocketed the boys’ 7-8 division crown with four-over-par total worth 50 points under the Molave Stableford scoring format at Navy in Day 4. He wound up with 145 points to beat Joaquin Arenas, who had 140, of Xavier School for top honors.
Annika, a sixth-grader at Makati Hope Christian School, posted an 18-hole total of 62 worth 46 points in Day 3 to dominate the girls’ 9-10 bracket. She ended up with 124 points to defeat erstwhile leader Theresa Dela Paz, who finished with 116, of Saint Michael the Archangel School.
“It was pretty nice to see them do so well,” said TJGL president Chona Dela Paz. “The Chuas played great and it was a big advantage for them to win in this tournament in preparation for the forthcoming ICTSI-JGFP Interschool Championships on Aug. 9-Sept. 27.”
Other winners were Xavier’s Enzo Cham (48) (6-years-and-under); Bloomfields’ Zachary Castro (141) (9-10 years old); La Salle-Canlubang’s Jethro Abalos (121) (11-12 years old); Gabby Subido of Phl Science (138) (13-14 years old); and Marcus Asinas of La Salle (126) (15-17 years old).
Mariel Tee of ICA scored 147 points to cop the girls’ 13-14 crown; Samantha Dizon of Povedo took the 11-12 title with a 141 while Rianne Malixi of St. Mary reigned in the 7-8 class with 46 points.
