Alabang edges F Hills, keeps WGAP lead

MANILA, Philippines - Alabang matched Forest Hills’ 156 output then nipped the hosts in the tiebreak to capture the Class C crown and keep the overall lead halfway through the Champion Infinity WGAP 2015 Circuit at the Forest Hills Golf and Country Club in Antipolo, Rizal recently.

Maria Elena Villanueva fired a 42, Minerva Castillo carded a 40 and Maria Brumann and Gloria Garcia backed them up with 38 and 36 points, respectively, under the Stableford scoring system to power the Alabang-based squad to the lead-preserving win.

Marilyn Co sizzled with a 43, Jee Cabochan and Lillian Lu each shot 38 while Eleanor Leung tossed in a 37 for Forest Hills for similar 156s. But Alabang took the crown with a total handicap of 118 as against Forest Hills’ 120.

The victory worth three points hiked Alabang’s overall points total to 17, keeping Forest Hills at bay with 15 while Tagaytay Highlands and Canlubang stayed in the hunt with 11 and nine points, respectively, after four legs of the eight-stage circuit organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines and presented by Champion Infinity.

Tagaytay placed third at Forest Hills with a 153 while Camp Aguinaldo pooled a 147 for fourth followed by Villamor (136), Sta. Elena (132), Canlubang (129), Manila Golf (115) and Valley (114).

Co took the individual plum.

Orchard nipped Valley and Forest Hills to rule Class A while Cangolf upended Alabang and Aguinaldo to snare Class B honors in the event which gathers the leading golfing ladies from the country’s top clubs.

It was Forest Hills’ third runner-up finish in a consistent showing in Class C with the hosts topping the Riviera second leg against Tagaytay and Eagle Ridge.

Meanwhile, in the third leg at Orchard, Tagaytay topped Class C with a 155 as Margaret Tan scored a 42, Deena Mendiola made a 40, Rosalind Wee added a 37 and Dionne Cu chipped in a 36 for a 10-point romp over Forest Hills.

The Antipolo-based squad assembled a 145 on individual winner Evelyn Alcantara’s 44, Dorigen San Juan and Cabochan’s identical 34 and Corazon Sy’s 33 while Cangolf came in third with a 142 followed by Sta. Elena (141), Villamor (140), Orchard (137), Alabang (135), Eagle Ridge (133) and Camp Aguinaldo (129).
