Korean takes US Girls’ plum

MANILA, Philippines - Korean Eun Jeong Seon clipped Angel Yin of the US with an early run of birdies in their morning match then sustained her form in afternoon play to clinch the US Girls’ Junior crown with a 3 and 2 victory at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma Saturday.

Eun, who eased out Annika Cedo tormentor Jayna Choi, 6 and 4 in the quarterfinals, actually yielded the opening hole of their 36-hole duel but birdied No. 2 and 4 and took an early 2-up lead as she also took the third hole with a par. Another par on the sixth put her three holes ahead before back-to-back birdies from No. 11 against Yin’s birdie on the 10th gave her a four-hole cushion after the first half of their marathon clash.

Yin came to within two with a birdie on their second trip on No. 6 coupled with a Eun bogey on the 10th. But the Korean ace struck back with a birdie on the 31st hole, only to yield another hole with a bogey on the next but watched her rival bogey the par-5 16th to wrap up the match and the crown which Filipina Princess Superal won in playoff fashion over Mexican Marijosse Navarro in Arizona last year.
