Teodoro explodes as Bombers wipe out Pirates

MANILA, Philippines – Tey Teodoro went on a shooting binge in the fourth quarter as Jose Rizal dumped Lyceum, 75-60, to post its first streak in the 91st NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City Friday.

Teodoro unleashed 25 points, including 16 straight points in the last six minutes of the game to help the Bombers turn a close game into a rout on their way to posting their first back-to-back wins of the year and improve to a 3-2 (win-loss) slate.

It was, by far, the best performance of Teodoro this season after entering the game averaging just 8.5 points a game.

"I have a feeling before the game that this is his time. I'm happy it happened," said Jose Rizal coach Vergel Meneses of Teodoro.

Up by only six, 57-51, going into the final six-minute mark, Teodoro found his rhythm and range as he detonated a 16-point bomb that quashed the last fight out of the Pirates.

Lyceum fell to 1-4.

Earlier, Mapua overwhelmed Emilio Aguinaldo with its superb guard play and hammered out a one-sided 101-72 win to get back on the winning track.

CJ Isit facilitated the Cardinals' superb passing game and accounted for seven of the team's 30 assists and posted their second win against three defeats.

Mapua's assist total came two shy of tying Arellano University's season-high 32 assists that incidentally came at the expense of the same EAC squad.

"Our defense was a big improvement, our passing also," said Mapua coach Atoy Co in Filipino.

Josan Nimes led the team with 18 points while Stephen Que and Justin Serrano both registered career-highs 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Isit finished with 12 points.

And the Cardinals did it in the absence of combo guard Andretti Stevens, who was ruled out in the last minute due to a right leg injury.

The Generals, who missed Mbang Aduom Abang due to a groin injury, fell to their fifth straight setback.

In juniors' action, the Red Robins trounced EAC, 88-80, to improve to 4-1 while the Junior Pirates edged the Light Bombers, 81-73, in overtime to post their third win against two defeats.
