Anton strikes again, rules Petron karting

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Iñigo Anton pulled off another feat, ruling the Formula Cadet Novice event in the kickoff of the 2015 Petron Blaze 100 ROK Karting Super Series at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite recently.

Anton bucked tough, wet conditions to defeat pole sitter Constantin Reisch from Austria, who crashed out in the last turn after losing control, enabling the 10-year-old Castrol-Yokohama’s bet to cruise to victory in a follow-up to his triumph in the FORS Shakedown race car event recently.

“I am so happy with the win. It was really hard driving under super slippery conditions. I thought my race was over when I spun out. Thank God I was still able to catch Constantin (Reisch) and win,” said Anton, who had to quickly learn how to drive his Kart Plaza-prepared Formula Cadet kart in the rain-hit time trials where he finished second on the grid beside Reisch.

Showing marked improvement after his debut in the Petron KF opener, Anton came out strong in the race proper, topping both qualifying and pre-final heats that put him on pole for the finals with the support of Edgesport, Works Bell, Mark Young Racing, JSD Autosport, Special Stage, Autoshack, Kart Plaza and View Park Hotel.

But Anton lost the early lead to Reisch, regained it in Lap 3 and held it until he spun out at the hairpin turn in lap 5.

Anton had to play catch up to Reisch until Lap 9 when he finally got past the Austrian to take charge as Reich lost control and crashed out in the last turn.

That enabled Kristine Yokoyama to snatch second place with Anton’s teammate Maverick Corpuz finishing third.
