Pacman vs Floyd: Feeling is mutual

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Floyd Mayweather Jr. is reportedly beating up his sparring partners, including a former world champion and a southpaw who gave the undefeated American one of his scariest moments inside the ring.

Zab Judah, according to Mayweather’s uncle Jeff, was the latest to jump into the ring with the reigning pound-for-pound champion.

The former undisputed welterweight champion faced Mayweather in 2006 in Las Vegas. In the second round, he landed a right hook and rocked Mayweather.

As he reeled, Mayweather’s glove touched the canvas, but the referee, Richard Steele, was quick to rule it as a slip.

That was the highlight of the fight, on the side of Judah, who lost on points.

Now he’s back in the ring with Mayweather – as a sparring partner.

But like the rest before him, the 37-year-old Judah took a beating in the hands of Mayweather. Fight Saga reported yesterday that “Judah was scared to let his hands go.”

Jeff Mayweather said there’s something about Manny Pacquiao that has turned his nephew into a “beast.”

“But the thing is, Floyd, he’s on a different level right now. It may be just his mind, and all the bullsh*t he’s been dealing with Manny over the years,” the uncle said.

“Obviously, he’s taken that in some kind of way, and I mean, he’s punishing these guys,” he added.

Well, the feeling is mutual.

Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, said he’s noticed something in Pacquiao the moment they started training for the May 2 fight that should break all existing records in boxing – money-wise.

“I can see it in his eyes, in his body movement, his attitude in training that he really wants to win and win decisively,” Roach said during the press launch of the mega fight.

“Sometimes, I cannot help but think he’s mad at this guy (Mayweather),” added Roach, who has his own word war going on with Mayweather’s old man, Floyd Sr.

Pacquiao can’t wait to get his hands on Mayweather.

“I can feel when we’re doing the mitts. With the way he hits the mitts, I can see it on how he responds to the things we want him to do. The efforts he has been doing which I didn’t see in his previous similarly important fights,” he said.

Pacquiao, like Mayweather, is a mad man.
