Roach: Pacquiao to serve Floyd ‘Leather ala Manny’
MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao is so focused on preparing for his megabuck showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. that he’s leaving all he talking to his longtime trainer Freddie Roach.
Roach, for his part, isn’t holding himself back.
A day after it was reported that Mayweather has hired an expensive chef to help keep his diet in check leading to the Pacquiao bout, Roach responded that the undefeated American definitely needs it.
“Whatever it is, it sure sounds expensive,” said the multi-titled trainer.
Mayweather’s personal chef, a lady who goes by the name Chef Q, has been preparing the boxer’s meals at a rate of $1,000 per meal. The Las Vegas-based fighter’s diet reportedly consists of high levels of protein and no carbohydrates.
Roach said come fight time on May 2, Mayweather won’t be eating the same way.
“I hope she [Chef Q] knows how to make crow and soft foods palatable because after he (Floyd) faces Manny that is all Mayweather will be eating,” continued Roach.
Pacquiao will try what 47 other fighters before him failed to do and hand Mayweather the first loss of his career. Roach is upbeat about ward’s chances, with Pacquiao doing great in training and looking good in his first day of sparring.
The bespectacled cornerman said Mayweather better enjoy his meals now, because it will be Pacquiao's punches that he'll be taking less than two months for now..
“I’ve read that Chef Q will be preparing meals high in protein which is perfect because Floyd is going to be eating a lot of ‘Leather a la Manny’ and it will be served piping hot,” Roach added.
“Thousand dollar meals, give me a break. Floyd is getting his just desserts on May 2,” he further said.
