Pinoy fighters see action in 2015's first One FC card
MANILA, Philippines – Three Filipino fighters of varying backgrounds join One Fighting Championship's initial charge this year.
Leading the contingent is former URCC Bantamweight champion Cary Bullos. In his One Championship debut, Bullos was barely able to exhibit his wares as he fell prey to Major Overall's rapacity. The swift fight ended in just 29 seconds courtesy of a rear naked choke submission from the American.
Bullos will look forward to implement a patient game plan that shall allow the fans this time to see what made him the champ of the Philippines’ premiere MMA promotion. He will lock horns tonight with elite Malaysian Featherweight fighter, Ev Ting.
Debuting in the biggest MMA stage in Asia is Ramon Gonzales, a longtime recognized Senpai of his base discipline, Kyokushin Karate. He has been engaged in martial arts for over a decade and is regarded as one of the best Karate practitioners the Philippines has to offer. Online clips of his fights support his knockout-grade striking and accuracy – things everyone must watch out for as he introduce himself later in Kuala Lumpur when he faces Chan Rothana of Cambodia in a 135-lb division contest.
The third fighter is April Osenio of the famed Team Lakay of Baguio City. Currently a college student, she is one of the youngest Filipina prospects blessed with a fast track route in her fighting career. Osenio was nominated as a short notice replacement to fight Evolve's Kirstie Gannaway.
Like Team Lakay icons Folayang and Banario, the 20-year-old Osenio began her combat sports pursuits in school. She is fresh off a fight last month, and Lakay co-head Folayang sees this as an answer to the question of whether their first female One FC fighter is up to the challenge.
"We're able to prepare and it wasn't hard to get her ready," Folayang said. "She just fought last month and did good and her conditioning is still up there."
The two debuting fighters further bolster the number of Filipino combatants in One FC. The Philippines is one of the top contributors to the promotion's talent pool as it has been supplying since its inception in 2012.
