Blue Batters sweep UAAP title series
MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo completed a “three-peat” in UAAP baseball after rallying past La Salle, 3-2, for a sweep of their best-of-three title series for Season 77 yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The Blue Batters pounced on the Green Batters’ costly throwing error in the sixth to score the marginal runs then held off their rivals to secure the title-clinching win that extended their dynasty. Ateneo won the opener, 7-3, Thursday.
“Our graduating players didn’t let us down, they hated to lose and they gave it their all,” Ateneo team manager Randy Dizer said of the likes of Pelos Remollo, Matt Laurel, Adrian Bernardo, and Inigo Untalan.
Ateneo found itself playing catch-up, 0-2, after conceding an error-aided run in each of the first and second innings. But the Blue Batters pulled one run back in the third with Bernardo dashing home off Laurel’s RBI to gain traction.
